MUSEUM (photo of Storage area or of Hermit Knife)
Grand Manan Museum is a community owned institution that reflects many aspects of the island, especially its fisheries and its navigational, cultural and natural history. We have one of the largest permanently displayed collections of stuffed birds in Canada (300 species) and approximately 3,750 objects in our total collection.
Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) is a national digital database that allows you to browse through selected artefacts from museums across Canada. The Grand Manan Museum contributes 15 artefacts annually to this collection as a condition of its annual Provincial Collections Grant. You can see some of our collection by visiting this link: https://app.pch.gc.ca/application/artefacts_hum/liste_list.app?in=Grand+Manan+Museum&t=0&lang=en
Items in the Museum Collection: When not on display, items in the collection are stored in two large climate-controlled rooms on the lower level. This area was renovated, expanded and reorganized in 2017-2019 with funding from a provincial Community Cultural Places grant and private and corporate donations. (1 photo of storage area shelf?)
