COMMUNICATIONS EXHIBIT

Island Technological Development

The Communications Display

Developing communication infrastructures on a remote island is challenging, and the history of how Grand Manan met those challenges and progressed up to the present day through technological advances is outlined in this new permanent exhibit created in 2018.

On Display

William and Mary Russell operated the first Seal Cove Post Office which opened in 1875.

Three interpretive signs outline a telecommunications timeline, audio (Do You Hear Me?) and visual (Do You See Me?) advances, and artefacts on display include telephones, a typewriter, submarine cables, an early post office desk for the island, old radios, a telegraph machine and an early movie projector.
